Joris is moving for good to Beijing on july the 2nd for another journalism adventure. So Dropkickd decided to finish the story of the band. Toshi and Ben are already rocking with the amazing Snots. And Joris will try his rock’n'roll luck in Beijing.

The Dropkicks were born in july 2006 and it’s been a fantastic experience all along. Not only for us but for the other musicians of The Dropkicks : Chen Song, Takayama and Yusuke.

toshi-dropkicks.jpg

Special thanks to 4 Live and Zooma who was the first to organize a gig for us, Logo and Maxime and Taibei, Yuyintang and Zhang Haisheng, Sam, Lu and Sophia, Anar and John, Live Bar crew, STD and Reggie, Antidote and Michael, Chan Debin in Hangzhou.

Many thanks also to every other Shanghainese bands who played with us or invited us for a support gig : Hotter than Teppanyaki, The Rogue Transmission, Boys Climbing Rope, Mortal Fools, Dovetail Joint, The Snots, Banana Monkey, etc…

But above all we would have been nothing without you. Either supporting us in China or abroad, you’ve always been there in your own way. Thank you so much ! After all, we’re just amateurs trying to make fun in Shanghai. And we had a lot of rock’n'roll fun for sure !!
Cheers to everyone and keep on rocking !

1) The Dropkicks
(Power trio)
Style : high energy punk rock’n'roll
Bio : The Dropkicks has been founded in june 2006 when Joris (French singer-guitarist) and Toshi (Japanese bassist), ex-classmates in the Fudan University of Shanghai, decided to play a special kind of punk rock’n'roll : the one invented by the Stooges, the MC5 and the Dead Boys, and renewed by the Scandinavian underground scene. A couple of month later, Chen Song, drummer of Crystal Butterfly, one of the best Shanghainese bands, joined the line-up. At the beginning, The Dropkicks used to play on a regular basis in 4 Live untill its closure. Since then, they rocked the scene of the best underground venues in Shanghai, from Live Bar to Yuyintang. Labeled as a cover band for a long time, The Dropkicks now perform original songs. They prepare to record their first LP before spring 09.

2) The Snot Rockets :
(Quartet)
Formed in late October 2008, the Snot Rockets are Ben (USA) on Vocals/Guitar, Misuzu Fan Qiang (China) on Guitar, Fabien (France) on Drums, and Toshi (China/Japan) on Bass. The Snot Rockets play garage punk and love garage punk.

3) Benjamin
(singer-guitarist solo)
Style : acoustic pop
Bio : Benjamin has been listening to, feeling and peforming music for as long as he can remember. “However, the Beatles, Eliott Smith, Wilco, Weezer, Rilo Kiley and Guster are all muchfamous than I am”, he says. He played many times in Shanghai with the Dropkicks. He’s gonna rock the Logo scene for the third time this year.

TRIX ( Can) :

Dj Trix Ryan Trix aka Shaolinpunk is a Canadian DJ, Producer, Artist-you name it-. He is also God’sKitchen’s resident DJ in China and everybody’s favourite 24 hour party rocker. Each week Dj Trix plays to a full house at Club Bonbon, home of Godskitchen (UK) in Shanghai, alongside such names as Claude Von Stroke, Mark Farina, Audiofly, Colette,, Sharam Jey, Demi, Jamie McHugh, John Askew, Steve Mac, Andy Moor, Gavyn, Max Graham, Dj Sneak, Slacker and Eddie Halliwell , to name a few. Trix arrived in Shanghai in 2005. Originally from Victoria, Canada, his career began in the mid-90’s playing warehouse parties in his hometown where his sound ranged from Tech House to Electro and Breaks. His deep affair with Asia was sparked in 2002 when he traveled to Taiwan where he quickly became established as a headline Dj and event organizer. Trix joined forces with Taiwan Dj’s Saucey and Coffey to form the heavily influential Connect Crew, and successfully brought in top international acts including Derrick Carter, Timo Maas and LTJ Bukem. During his 3 years in Taiwan, Dj Trix held successful residencies and headlined many clubs in Taipei, including 2nd Floor, and Luxy, Boven, Room 18, Whiskey, and Bacchus. International bookings became more frequent and Dj Trix made his first appearance in Seoul, Republic of Korea, where he rocked another sold out show, and re-ignited his deep interest in travel and Asian culture which has since brought him to Shanghai, People’s Republic of China. In Shanghai, Dj Trix teamed up with Dj Tootekool (DE) and organized the original Micro parties where he extended his music style and range, evolving his sound to strike the right chords deep at the core of the underground music scene in Shanghai. Around the same time, Dj Trix began securing recurring nights at Shanghai’s top venues including Park 97, Viproom, Guandii, Mint, Fabrique, Dkd where he continued to refine his Electro Tech style and build a firm footing for the future sound of Shanghai. In 2005, Dj Trix, along with Dj Carl Lorimer (US) and Dj Kingpin (Aus) jointly established Union Music to promote their popular monthly residency at Club Dkd. The huge success of the Union nights have paved the way for recurring events of a larger scale at Club Bonbon, where the affliation with Godskitchen (UK) has made possible the introduction of many international acts to China’s most cosmopolitan city: Shanghai. It also lead to a nationwide tour throughout the Middle Kingdom When not playing to Shanghai crowds, Dj Trix is hard at work planting the seeds for future generations of China club and party people. He is frequently touring and playing to packed clubs in many diverse parts of China. He is currently working on the production front of things with good freidn and fellow DJ, Slackerton on a live dance act which will be turning heads in 2008.

The after party would be banged by Liam O’Sullivan with an eclectic sound of House music and more.

Liam O’Sullivan

“For the last ten years DJ Liam O’Sullivan has been one of the busiest DJ’s across the house and techno scene. From his early years supporting artists such as Jeff Mills and Adam Beyer to his modern incarnation as a house DJ supporting acts like Felix Da House Cat and Woody McBride, he has been a DJ always focused on how to fill dance floors. DJ Liam hosted the most successful Thursday night dance music program on KissFM for the last five years with an envious list of guest DJ’s. He has had his finger on the pulse of the dance music scene and been an innovator in pushing new sounds. Over the years he has graced the shores of Japan, England and Thailand and now he moves to China for his ‘Sino Experiment‘.
