Lauren Jane’s songs are powerfully introspective, lyrically sophisticated tributes to love and life. Born and raised in Memphis Tennessee (1980), the birthplace of Rock in Roll, Lauren was exposed to music early in life and began playing the violin at age 4. Singing soon followed with performances for imaginary audiences in her backyard as a young child. Classically trained through the Suzuki program, Lauren developed a sensitive musical ear that flows through her music. A self taught piano player, Lauren wrote her first song at age 17 and immediately began performing at open mics around Memphis and on Beale Street. In this same year Lauren recorded her first single, “These days” (1997), and soon developed a cult following. Famous for her sensual voice, the ultra talented singer/songwriter effortlessly fuses genres of music. Industry observers claim that Lauren Jane has the sultry voice of a Jazz vocalist with the versatile range of a Pop/Rock artist. Lauren’s rich and evocative melodies are hauntingly beautiful with passionate stylings. Early influences include Tori Amos & Sarah McLachlan. Lauren has often been compared to artists such as Fiona Apple and recently Dido. Recently Lauren’s career has taken her throughout Asia with current performances in Shanghai featuring Lauren in TV commercials, high-end events, and guest appearances on CCTV & ICS.
Since LJ’s time in Shanghai she started a three-piece group with Benjamin Lappay & Pranayam Aquino, and performed regularly with them throughout 2007 and 2008. Ben (bass) and Yam (drums) both hail from the Philippines and have been friends for many years. Ben plays a mean bass, and Yam is truly one of the best drummers in the city. These three have grown quite close over the past couple of years, and have grown together musically. The Sound Pilots were officially formed this spring of 2009 with two additional members - Alex Oh (keys/synth), and Jake Gomez (guitar). Alex is from Singapore and has proved to be the key to the group’s completed sound. He’s ultra-talented on keys, but is also an amazing composer. Jake Gomez, the most recent member to the group, is also from the Philippines, and he’s nothing short of a fantastic electric guitar player!
