Founded as a trio in June 2006, The Dropkicks are French, Japanese and Chinese. Influenced by the Stooges, Dead Boys and the Scandinavian underground scene, they play high energy punk rock’n'roll
1st part of the night will be played by Benjamin, solo acoustic guitar and vocal.
his style was influenced by the Beatles, Eliott Smith, Wilco, Weezer, Rilo Kiley and Guster.
the after party is rocked by a newcomer dj in Shanghai: dj dieter
Following co-production with Sympathy7 of Convenience of Modern Culture’s debut album Merchandise in 2006 , DJ Dieter (aka Brent Leighton) took another direction. Living in Melbourne, Australia (some would argue the music capital of Australia) enabled him to see an amazing variety of world class acts virtually every weekend. He cites acts such as Zen Paradox, Amon Tobin, Klute, Luomo and Monolake along with the giants of House (Sasha, Deep Dish) as strong influences. Djing around Melbourne at underground parties, he was a very early adopter of digital technologies and their potential for live sound manipulation – further blurring the line between Djing and live re-mixing. His micro/tech/progressive house sets are melody driven where he often looks to experiment with textures and samples. His characteristic long-mix style lends itself to the creation of some very unique sounds.
Dj Dieter comments on Shanghai’s music scene as “being very vibrant and having incredible pulling power for such a small base” - nearly every weekend one of the worlds top Dj’s can be seen playing somewhere.
Since relocating to Shanghai in mid 2007, DJ Dieter has played Club DD’s in Jingan, and Music Matters – a monthly Shanghai music festival, where musos from all over the globe come together to do what they love – play music.
