This thursday, LOgO present a UK acoustic duo for a nice pop concert followed by taiwanese dj Chewie..

about Blueshoes :

blueshoes is an acoustic duo of vocals and guitar, playing original music, improvised jam sessions and eccentric covers. Their unique style comes from a quirky fusion of blues and folk.

On vocals is Louise Ellen, 23 and born in England. After finishing an English Literature degree she came to China to teach English as well as pursue a music career. Although classically trained, she’s followed jazz her whole life, her biggest influences being Eva Cassidy and Nina Simone.

On acoustic guitar is Adam Varjavandi, also 23 from Scotland. After completing a degree in Chinese in Xi’an, he also moved to Shanghai to pursue music. Adam uses a fingerstyle picking technique in contrast to the smooth blusey tones of the vocals. This unusual fusion first came together at an open mike night in Shanghai, and the two have been playing together ever since. Their ultimate aim is to find their own corner in Shanghai’s already thriving music scene.

DJ Chewie, aka Jim Lee, from Taipei, Taiwan, started out playing house records in the winter 0f 1997. Over the next ten years, sounds as diverse as prog, tech house, nu skool breaks, two-step, breakbeat garage, progressive and even drum ‘n’ bass, found their way into his sets.

Now, in early-2006, progressive once again forms the basis of his sets, though he’s just as comfortable spinning breaks-based sounds. The “Thinking man” tag that’s sometimes attached to DJ Chewie’s sets in no way takes away from the inherent danceability of his track selection. And by Taipei clubland standards, the vinyl in his bag offen the very definition of fresh.

When he’s not DJing, Jim Lee organizes club nights and one-off gigs in Taipei clubs. DJs he’s brought to Taiwan as event organizer with AB Koo and Manchu Productions include Sasha, Lee Burridge, James Zabiela, Adam Freeland, Phil K, Tayo, Mo Shic, Steve Gerrard, DJ Hyper, Dan F, Evil 9, Jonathan Lisle, Luke Chable and Matrix.
